Overview
Welcome to the 7th International Conference on Plant Genetics and Genomics
Agrobiodiversity encompassing plant genetic resources for food and agriculture play a pivotal role in ensuring food security, promoting social and economic development, and sustaining agricultural practices. Although traditional breeding has historically contributed to improving crop yields since the mid-20th century, the future of food security hinges on the extensive utilization of Genebank collections through modern biotechnological approaches like genetic engineering and genome editing. Integrated application of these genetic technologies provides an opportunity for steering another green revolution in agriculture with environmental sustainability.
Genome editing is turning out to be an indispensable technology for achieving climate resilience and sustainable agricultural development in the 21st century. This powerful technology is already revolutionizing crop improvement by introducing desired changes in the plants’ native genes with a high level of precision, accuracy and efficiency for developing new crop varieties on a much faster timescale. There is considerable optimism regarding the precision and speed of gene editing, particularly in its ability to complement the genetically modified traits in GM crops.
This conference aims to provide a platform to promote the use of plant genetic and genomic resources for genetic modification and genome editing, along with discussions on enhancing the efficient use of natural resources, reducing dependence on agrochemicals, global biosafety regulations and socio-economic considerations. In addition, there will be a special session on “Accelerating Genetic Improvement of Millets for Sustainable Agricultural Development”.
The 2-day event offers a unique platform for young professionals, scholars, and influential figures from academia and industry, and policy makers to engage in discussions about the recent scientific breakthroughs. The conference is scheduled to be held at the NASC Complex, Pusa, New Delhi, from February 16 to 17, 2024.
Best Poster Award
We are inviting scientists, faculty, and research scholars to present their research work at the conference and get critical comments, insights and new directions for their research. The best poster presentation by a Pre-Doctoral Research Scholar will be awarded Rs 5100/-during the closing ceremony of the conference.
Looking forward to welcoming you to the conference.
