Rohini Sreevathsa's Biography

Rohini Sreevathsa, Principal Scientist, ICAR - NIPB, New Delhi, India
Dr. Rohini Sreevathsa completed her Ph.D from Chemistry (Biochemistry) Department, Bangalore University in 2003. Simultaneously, she worked as a Research fellow in the Department of Biochemistry, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. During this tenure, she developed a novel tissue culture-independent Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated in planta transformation protocol for the development of transgenics in recalcitrant species.
Her expertise in transgenics won her the DST-Young scientist fast track project in 2004, which she implemented at the University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, Bangalore. Further, she continued to work as a Research Scientist and was actively involved in the development of several crop improvement programmes for both biotic and abiotic stress tolerance. Presently, she is working as a Principal Scientist at ICAR-NIPB, New Delhi. Her main area of research is to develop pod borer resistance in pigeon pea by both transgenic approach as well as exploitation of pigeonpea wild relatives.
