Genome editing by CRISPR systems ushers immense possibilities in the field of Agriculture. Multiple beneficial traits which were not possible before are now becoming reality by application of this new technology .Genome editing plays important role especially for those traits where genetic variation is not available in natural genetic pool and trait development is not possible by traditional methods. Moreover, CRISPR based genome editing already shown to be useful in many aspects of plant trait development such as , enhancing speed of breeding, combining breeding and DH tools together, targeting multiple genes by multiplexing , single SNP editing , epigenome editing etc. Under One CG , while we have started a consorted effort to introduce genome editing for trait development and breeding enhancement , at CIMMYT we have also taken multiple efforts to expedite development of genome edited novel traits for underdeveloped geographies of Africa, South America, and other similar areas of global south. This talk will focus some of CIMMYT's efforts using CRISPR system mediated genome editing for better crop development.
