Viswanathan Chinnusamy's Biography

Viswanathan Chinnusamy, Joint Director, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi, India
Dr. Viswanathan serves as the Joint Director (Research) at ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, a position he has held since 2022. His association with ICAR-IARI spans over two decades, beginning as a Scientist from 1996 to 2005, progressing to Senior Scientist until 2010, and subsequently achieving the role of Principal Scientist until 2022. Throughout his career, he has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious ICAR Jawaharlal Nehru Award (2001), the DST BOYSCAST Fellowship (2001), and has been honored as a Fellow of the Indian Society for Plant Physiology. Dr. Viswanathan’s contributions to plant physiology were further recognized with the ISPP J.J. Chinoy Gold Medal. His international experience includes roles as a Visiting Researcher at the University of California (2008-2010) and as a Visiting Scholar at Harvard Medical School in 2009. His primary research focuses on Plant Physiology, Phenomics, and Genome Editing. Dr. Viswanathan is also a NAAS Associate (2010), and Fellow of the NAAS (2018).
